"Geldof The Great" Puts The Magic Together Again

In nine nations around the planet, thousands of people gathered at concert sites and millions more watched on television as the great vision of Sir Bob Geldof unfolded today. Live 8 was an overwhelming success for spreading awareness of the serious issues African nations are faced with daily and pressuring the leaders of the G8 Nations as the eve of their annual meeting grows near. It was made clear from the outset that this series of concerts was not about charity, it was about awareness. Performers encouraged world citizens to sign a petition at www.live8live.com that would be presented to the G8 leaders on Wednesday at their meeting in Scotland. By the end of the flagship concert at Hyde Park in London, 25 million names had been accumulated with millions more sure to follow overnight and throughout the remaining days leading up to the day of the G8 summit.

Geldof was again able to display his seemingly unnatural ability to mobilize, once all is said and done, around about one billion people worldwide in support of this very worthy cause. Live 8 exposed this problem to the world and its leaders and on Wednesday at the G8 summit, hopefully these aforementioned leaders will give these issues the attention they deserve.
